From Miss F

Hi everyone,

Well I came across some emails from edublogs recently and I logged in to have a look. For those reading this who don’t know us, I created this blog with my Grade 6 class in 2008. They are about to start Year 8 and I am no longer a teacher!

I would love it if you all still contributed to the blog though. We never really had time to do it properley.

Miss F :)

Congratulations 6KF – We’ve gone international!

After only a couple of weeks, we now have hits from five different countries – 29 from across Australia (WA, VIC, NSW), 6 from the United States, 2 from the United Kingdom, 1 from Canada, and 1 from New Zealand.

How exciting! I’m sure there’s more to come – the more that we post, the more visitors we will get!

What are some of the things you have learned about human impact on carbon output?

Animal species, especially ones living in the Arctic, are becoming endangered or extinct at rapid speeds.

When we recycle a bin full of paper 13 trees are being saved 30,000 tones of water and 4 ones of green house gases.

I learnt that an average household car uses 6 tonnes of green house gas a year.

i learnt that most of the animal species are getting extinct from all the greenhouse gasses.

When you dry one load of washing in the dryer it emits 3 kilos of green house gas.
I thought this was really interesting.

Each wheelie bin of bottles recycled at the BIG DAY OUT about 80kg of greenhouse gases

Each year one person on average releases 1 ton of carbon dioxide into the earth’s atmosphere.
I found this interesting.

I learnt that animals are becoming extinct because the temperature of the earth is going up. This is melting the polar caps, and causing the animals species living there to die, as there is no ice. For example, polar bears are starting to die, as they cannot swim forever, as there is no ice to stop and rest on. The poor polar bears have resorted to cannibalism.

Our Blog

Posted on November 4th, 2008 in Uncategorized by sw6kf  Tagged

Our class has decided to enter the exciting world of blogging!

We have created a “Sharing the Planet” page so that we can share information, ideas and questions about our current unit of inquiry.

We have also created a page titled “The books we BOO or WOO HOO!” This is the page where we can post book reviews, discuss books we have enjoyed or not enjoyed and explain why.

This is the first time we have created a blog so bear with us…we are just learning.
